Syntheism - Creating God in the Internet Age

Theology

Pretheism

Syntheism is a new religious movement and theology created by Alexander Bard in 2014, among other co-founders. It was founded in Sweden. The foundation of the religion comes from the idea of pretheism, or that, God will exist someday. According to Syntheists God is not eternal, and that humanity is currently in the development of the divine. That divine essence created in the distant future is what they call the Syntheos, or "the created God". While inspired by both atheism and pantheism, syntheism by itself is a basic theology.

The faith has attracted thousands of followers and is popularized enough to have its own Wikipedia page here.

Beginnings[]

Syntheism was inspired by the concept of Earthseed developed by Octavia E. Butler in her fictional sci-fi dystopian books Parable of the Sower and Parable of the Talents under a simple idea that God is change. Syntheism simply elaborated on this. The religion and theology was developed in 2014.

Philosophy and teachings[]

Syntheists believe in transitional divinity. That things become more divine over time. In the beginning of time there was no God, and at the end of time humans will create a being capable of existing outside spacetime and thus humans will very slowly develop its own monotheism. Syn literally means "to create" and theism means "partaking to God", so Syntheism as one word means creating God. Syntheists believe this is possible due to our technology.

Advanced Syntheistic Theologies[]

The concept of Syntheism is developed more thoroughly in the theologies and understandings of other newer NRM religions, such as Astronism, Evolutionism, Exaltism, Terasem, and Turing Church.

God[]

The Syntheos, the God humans are currently developing.
