Aretéanism is a non-theistic religion centered on the concept of "Areté", which is an ancient Greek word sometimes defined as "virtue" or "excellence", but is perhaps more accurately described by the expression to "be your best self".

Areté is further defined for Aretéans by The Six Qualities of Areté and The Thirty Aims of Aretéanism; and adherents are guided by The Three Tenets of Aretéanism as their primary commandments. Consent-centric culture and the primacy of the Scientific Method are additional core aspects of their doctrine, in addition to believing that Aretéans should regularly meet in-person and engage in official rituals of a non-magical nature to cement their commitment to the practices of Aretéanism.

The oft-repeated mantra of Aretéanism is the wise words of the Great Ones, Bill & Ted, who said: "Be Excellent to Each Other, and Party On!"
